Cancún 3-day itinerary: beaches, a Maya ruin, and an island
What this 3-day plan covers
Three days is enough for a first taste of the region: one slow beach day in Cancún, one big-ticket Maya ruins day, and one island day. It assumes you are based in the Cancún Hotel Zone and using shuttles, ferries, and the odd taxi rather than a rental car.
Day 1 — Cancún beaches and the lagoon
Ease in. Spend the morning on a calm north-facing beach, the afternoon at a beach club, and watch sunset over the Nichupté Lagoon.
Day 2 — Maya ruins
Pick one: Chichén Itzá (grander, further, ~2.5h) or Tulum (smaller, on the coast, easier to combine with a cenote swim). Start early either way.
Day 3 — Isla Mujeres
Take the ferry from Puerto Juárez to Isla Mujeres. Rent a golf cart, ride to Playa Norte — one of the Caribbean’s best beaches — and have a slow seafood lunch before the ferry back.
